A Christmas gift. The first song on posted on the Socialized site, and it’s technically not even a Socialized song. In fact, as of this writing, half of the band has not even heard the song yet. We were trying to get a particular song finished to send out for Christmas, but we still haven’t gotten all of the goodilly-bits tracked yet. So, until we can wrap that one up and push it out the door, here’s a semi-Socialized song to cover my need to squeeze something out from this band by Christmas.
Diamond Dave and I went into the studio to write on a Sunday night with a blank piece of paper and a pack of cigarettes. We came out about 5 hours later with Pictures of You. Dave started out with a looped drum pattern and I played a guitar figure on top of that. Dave then played the cool keyboard sounds that you hear in the background. We were pretty happy with what was going down at that point.
Next, while Dave was tracking the synth, I wrote a mess of words onto that blank sheet of paper and worked out a rough melody. We tracked out the vocals and Dave arranged the song using his 3rd degree black belt Pro Tools-fu. Recording this song was also the first time I’ve been able to use my new fretless bass. As fun as it was to play, it showed me that I really suck at fretless, but love working with Dave.
Merry Christmas to all.
