Tricycle is a reflection on youth and the freedom and fun of growing up, the intense relationships with old friends, our parents, and family.

Tricycle was initially recorded on May 15th 2008 as a Pro Tools lesson that David Dolinar was giving to André Sanchez. André quickly wrote a guitar and bass part so that they would have a something to record during the training session.   André had written the entire arrangement, including the intro and middle eight in about 5 minutes.

Eric was in the lounge of the recording studio working on lyrics for song that the band had written earlier in the same session.  Eric came into the studio and was struck by the song that was playing back on the monitors. the “Oh, la las” of the refrain immediately popped into his head while listening to that initial playback.

The next night, Eric wrote out the melody and lyrics for the song. As the band worked on the song, they extended the third verse and wrote another set of lyrics that became the list of childhood memories sung at the end of the song.

The song ends with the laughter of children, courtesy of Eric’s nieces.

The song was mixed in April/May 2009 and the video for the song was shot in April of 2009. The song was released May 25, 2009.
